Industry to Art, the preview of an exhibition at STEAM
Yesterday I went along at the invitation of Toby Robson to STEAM for the preview showing of his and others work entitled Industry to Art, it's their response to items in the museum. Here's the poster which gives the siting of the exhibition 'in the Scraggery', what a lovely word
And here are a few pieces I photographed, the first one isn't part of the exhibition, but a wonderful coat of arms:
The piece above, hard to photograph in a case, is 'Motion and Power' made by Toby from cast iron and gold leaf gilding.
Above Helen Jacob's 'Imaginary Engine' made from cast iron and enamel paint. Helen talked to us about the process of making these things at the Bullpen foundry. There was also a video of them being made above the exhibition
And above this is called 'Whorlwheel' and it's by Wez Jacobs, made from cast iron and mahogany.
It was a really interesting exhibition, I'm not sure how long it's on for, but I'll try and find out.
