The Launch of Swindon Open Studios at Swindon Museum and Art Gallery

Having the launch the evening before the first open studios weekend, is logical, but makes the event a bit fraught because the artists present are worrying about the presentation of their work, whether they have invited enough people, if their refreshments are up to scratch etc etc.
For the first time, we held the launch at the Museum and Art Gallery on Bath Road, everyone who had a brochure was invited, but luckily 5000 people didn't turn up, and I think people enjoyed themselves and particularly liked being able to look at the very interesting About Face exhibition.
Here we are - waiting for the first people to arrive:
Rachel had kindly brought along a computer with a slide show of people's work, here's one of Pat Elmore's pieces:
We were fortunate enough to have the Mayor, Teresa Page opening the launch at 7.30pm

And then people gathered around chatting.
Below Mark Worrall and David Robinson talking to Vicky Silver with Rachel Pryor and Vanetta Joffe in the background
Sally Taylor and Paula Sullivan chatting
Below Carmen B Norris and John Maskalaniec on the right, Nicky and Joe Wright on the left and Carole Bent and Joel Joffe in the centre looking at the exhibition
Tim Carroll and Jonathan Paget chatting
Jane Milner-Barry talking to Lynette Thomas, Sue Bardwell and someone on the right.
It was a great way to start Swindon Open Studios 2014, thank you to all those who came and the museum and art gallery for giving us access, particularly Nicki Western who gave up her Friday evening to be the member of staff.
