Much recommended Crofton Lock House was open for the NGS today, so I thought I'd take a break and have a look at it. The house is reached via turning right in Great Bedwyn when coming from Marlborough, then taking a right turn and traveling beside the canal for a bit, parking up by an old Roman road, crossing the railway line and canal:
Walking along the beside the canal along the towpath for a few minutes, and
you've arrived at the house with garden both sides of the house.
Above the colourful flower beds, and below pots arranged beautifully on tables and stools to give a 'packed' look
Close ups of the pots around the door. I'm going to try Nicotiana sylvestris self sown seedlings in pots, they look great.
On the other side of the house, there are several sheds, this is a studio
There's a shepherd's hut I could live in, situated by the hens
Here's the inside of the studio
The teas and cakes were excellent, as was the plant sale, well grown, interesting perennials in large pots.
And as we came out, a boat was going through the lock, providing additional entertainment for the garden viewers and probably canal walkers.
